Mothers Day Gift Ideas from the Canberra Region

What’s better than being spoilt on Mother’s Day? Being spoilt with beautiful things available in your own local community. Let me share some of the things on my Mother’s Day wish list from some outstanding businesses right here in my hometown region of Canberra, ACT.

Heart of the Alps wall art by Scott Leggo

This photograph (pictured above) is taken at Kosciuszko National Park which is up into the Snowy Mountains about a two-hour drive from my place. Scott describes this piece of art as “Looking more like a heart with arteries flowing from it than a tree, this snow gum immediately got my attention. I had been camped out in Kosciuszko National Park with my wife and this morning had been nothing but consistent rain. The resultant wet bark on this tree really brought out the colours on this quintessential Australian alpine tree.”

With my health background and love of Australian plants and trees, this is something I would love to have on my wall. Check out Scott’s website and he and his wife Philippa have a gorgeous showroom in Kingston.

Ad Crescendum var Infusionem Native Gin by Underground Spirits

This gin is a collaborative effort with the Australian National Botanic Gardens which is my most favourite destination in Canberra. For this blend they selected and expertly combined Johnsons grass tree (Xanthorrhoea johnsonii), rose myrtle (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa), white correa (Correa alba), wombat berry (Eustrephus latifolius), goodinea (Goodinea), white birch (Betula pendula), Manuka myrtle (Leptospermum scoparium), lemon aspen (Cronychia acidula), native pennyroyal mint (Mentha satureioides). Their ingredients list reads a bit like ours at Science Skincare wouldn’t you say? Cheers to that!

V&M handcrafted Anvil Silver Bangle by Vetro E Metallo

This jewellery store is in Braidwood which is a small town in NSW where my grandparents had strong ties. It’s about an hour from me. Vetro e Metallo use lots of recycled materials and some of the copper they use has been recycled off the roof of Parliament House when it was damaged in the 2020 hailstorm in Canberra. I love this silver bangle because of its organic structure. I wear lots of silver (goes with the grey hair!).

Authentic Aging System by Science Skincare

This is my personal favourite and the most sumptuous self-care for busy women full stop. Because the formulations are so effective and complex, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation and hydration are quick and easy to achieve. No fuss but lot’s of result!

These gifts are an awesome way to celebrate Canberra, its region and being a Mum. (P.S. I hope my kids read this!)
